The semifinal-bound Fighting Maroons have drawn up a third-consecutive victory to improve to a 9-1 standing at the No. 2 spot below the defending champion La Salle, both of which have an inside track to gain a twice-to-beat incentive.

Francis Lopez shone for UP with 20 points and five rebounds as one-and-done big man Quentin Millora-Brown provided a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the worst loss of Blue Eagle coach Tab Baldwin in the league.

MANILA, Philippines — Urged by Adamson coach Nash Racela to do more, the Falcons responded in a big way by upsetting No. 3 University of the East in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday.

Adamson ended a five-game slide and more importantly, kept their flailing Final Four bid going.

Racela’s encouraging words following Sunday’s loss to University of the Philippines worked wonders as the Falcons locked down on defense and drew solid efforts from AJ Fransman, Matt Erolon and Cedrick Manzano.

Lately this season, the University of the Philippines (UP) has struggled to find its rhythm at the start of its games. But the Fighting Maroons seemed to always get hold of their mojo and so far, they have come home with a win.

For JD Cagulangan, that has to change.

And that’s true for the Maroons, who have always been open about their biggest goal in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament: to reclaim the throne they once sat on.
