SSC, minus Topex, eyes No. 8 vs Lyceum

San Sebastian resumes its campaign minus coach Topex Robinson when the Stags  take on the cellar-dwelling Lyceum Pirates today  in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena.

The Stags, tied for second at 7-3 with the Jose Rizal Bombers and the Perpetual Altas,  collide with the 2-8 Pirates at 6 p.m. still smarting from a 77-67 upset loss from the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals in their last game.

Robinson, who steered the Stags to a runner-up finish last year, resigned as coach Tuesday to concentrate on his job as assistant to Alaska coach Luigi Trillo in the PBA. But he said he’s willing to remain as consultant and help SSC finds a replacement.

Sources said former SSC coach Ato Agustin, who is trying to make a comeback in the political scene, may just return to his old job since he has been replaced as Petron Blaze head coach by Olsen Racela.

Letran tries to get back into the win column when it goes up against Mapua in the first game at 2 p.m.

Tied at 4-5, the Knights will try to end a two-game slump while  the Cardinals are fresh from a 68-49 win over Arellano last week.
