Up-and-coming collegiate players Joel Cabusas and Andrew Joshua Cano posted upset wins in their respective age-group divisions Tuesday night in the Olivarez-Philta Open tennis championships presented by Palawan Pawnshop Express Pera Padala at Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat.

Seeded fourth in the boys’ 18-under, Cabusas, a University of Santo Tomas mainstay, tripped second seed Argil Canizares, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the finals against top seed Eric Jed Olivarez.

Olivarez was dragged to a second set tiebreak before escaping with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win over Cano in the other semifinal match.

Cano bounced back in the 16-under when he barged into the finals with a 6-1, 6-1 stunner over top seed Marcen Gonzales. The Letran stalwart arranged a championship match with second seed Olivarez who trounced No. 3 Stefan Suarez, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
