Kat Tolentino staying patient as she plays through auditory condition
MANILA, Philippines — Playing through an auditory condition didn’t stop Kat Tolentino from making an impact for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans despite losing in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Tolentino showed flashes of her lethal attacking form with 12 points in three sets but Choco Mucho fell to Petro Gazz, 20-25, 28-26, 21-25, 16-25, in the opening game of both teams on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
“I know I can give more. I think that’s just the beginning right now. It’s not enough for the team. I know that I have to contribute both offensively and defensively and I think I still have so much more to offer for this season,” said Tolentino, who had 10 kills and two blocks.

MANILA, Philippines — Armed with her international experience, Faith Nisperos is bringing all the learnings from Alas Pilipinas to make up for her lost time with the Akari Chargers.
Nisperos wasn’t a starter but that didn’t stop her from delivering the goods with 16 points for Akari to overcome Galeries Tower’s tough challenge, 28-30, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23, in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
The Alas player, who struggled in the first conference of the year, had an efficient comeback after hitting 16 of her 28 attack attempts in her first PVL game under coach Taka Minowa.
PVL: Julia Coronel happy with debut, but still ‘has a lot to work on’
MANILA, Philippines — Julia Coronel was pleased with her showing in her much-awaited pro debut but her ultimate goal remains to make her mark and help Galeries Tower reach greater heights in the PVL.
Coronel, the third overall pick of Galeries, dished out nine excellent sets and scored eight points but her debut was spoiled by Akari, 30-28, 15-25, 16-25, 23-25, in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference opener on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
“I know I still have a lot to work on. I’d say this was a good debut for me. I’m just happy that I finally got to play in the pros,” said the rookie setter.
“I also want to become more competitive as a player and for our team to be more competitive too. That’s my goal for myself and for the team. That’s why I’m working to reach that level.”
PVL: Akari overcomes Galeries Tower for a winning start
MANILA, Philippines — Akari recovered from a lethargic first-set loss before overcoming Galeries Tower, 28-30, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23, to kick off the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on a high note on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
The Chargers started their new season off the wrong foot, blowing a 24-22 advantage and four set-point leads that allowed the HighRisers to tie it to 28-all after Jewel Encarnacion’s hit.
Akari committed back-to-back errors after Ivy Lacsina’s attack went outside followed by a two touches violation from Cams Victoria, giving the opening set to Galeries.

PVL: MJ Phillips, Petro Gazz banking on chemistry in All-Filipino bid
MANILA, Philippines — A fit-again MJ Phillips is putting a premium on Petro Gazz’s strong team bond in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, which runs for six months starting Saturday at Philsports Arena.
Phillips is making her return for the Angels after missing the Reinforced Conference due to a left foot injury. Petro Gazz placed sixth and couldn’t complete a ‘three-peat’ in the import-laden tournament.
“My health is pretty good. I mean, I have great PTs and my teammates are really patient with me and so are my coaches. I’m excited but thankfully it’s a long season,” Phillips told the reporters.
PVL: Faith Nisperos, Fifi Sharma aim to lead Akari back to finals
MANILA, Philippines — Faith Nisperos and Fifi Sharma are eyeing to replicate Akari’s finals breakthrough when the Alas Pilipinas stars return to action in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
After being sidelined in the Chargers’ runner-up finish in the Reinforced due to their commitments with the Philippine women’s volleyball team, Nisperos and Sharma seek to prove that they can get their team back on top in the six-month-long competition.
“From being on the sidelines last conference, nakaka-excite to play with them, be on the court with them. And of course, it’s added motivation that we’ve seen how they played, and fulfilling yung tingin kung makasama naman kami sa court with them,” said Nisperos.
