At just 7 years old, Aleia Aielle Aguilar has conquered the world of jiujitsu—three times over.
The young Filipino fighter clinched her third world championship title at the 2024 World Festival Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi, defying both the odds and her larger opponents on the mat.

Aguilar faced a daunting challenge in the finals, where she squared off against United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Sarah Abuhijleh in the girls’ Gi 22-kilogram A Class division. Despite competing in a heavier weight class, she displayed extraordinary skill and composure, ultimately prevailing 3-0 for the gold.
Her father, Alvin Aguilar, founder of Philippine mixed martial arts and president of DEFTAC Philippines, shared his amazement at her accomplishment.
Honored
“We initially signed her up for the 19-kg category, but no one would compete against her. She moved up, faced bigger competitors, and still won,” he said.
In the semifinals, Aielle made quick work of her opponent, submitting Sana Alzaabi of the UAE with an armbar in just 20 seconds—a testament to her refined technique and relentless training. Her victory isn’t just a personal milestone; it also reflects the growing prowess of the Philippines in the international jiujitsu scene.
Aielle is set to be honored at the Siklab Youth Sports Awards in December, alongside fellow Filipino youth champions Marcus Sebastian Dela Cruz, Ma. Althea Louise Brion, Yani Alexii Lopez and Princess Akeisha Reuma.
“Our young athletes worked tirelessly for this, and they truly delivered,” Aguilar said.
