Stags buck Abueva ejection, clobber Pirates
Ian Sangalang proved equal to the challenge when Calvin Abueva was ejected, steering San Sebastian to an 83-75 trouncing of Lyceum last night in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The 6-foot-6 center finished with 20 points and 17 boards as the Stags bucked the absence of reigning MVP Abueva for majority of the second half to nail their eighth win in 11 games and stay second behind San Beda.
Abueva, the current leader in the MVP race, was slapped with a disqualifying foul for hitting Lyceum forward Vence Laude with a closed fist in the nape with 6:08 left in the third.

The Stags played their first game after the resignation of coach Topex Robinson, who is now an assistant coach with Alaska in the PBA.
More than an automatic suspension, Abueva’s infraction also meant his disqualification from the MVP race.
