Kevin Quiambao says ‘ligang labas’ gig has La Salle blessing
MANILA, Philippines — Reigning UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao assured that his “ligang labas” gig is just for his family and got a green light from La Salle coaches and managers.
Quiambao has been drawing flak on social media over his appearance in a recreational league last November 2.

He also denied the reports about receiving a huge amount of money.
“For my family, ginawa ko lang. Never, never.

Here’s an excerpt from the rulebook approved in 2021:
9.4 Except as provided in this Amateur Status Rule, there shall be no prohibition for any student-athlete and/or sports team of any Member University from simultaneously participating in other tournaments or leagues while participating in the UAAP.
Quiambao said he got the blessing to play from coach Topex Robinson, who even joked about his appearance in a “ligang labas” after the game.

The Gilas Pilipinas forward doesn’t mind the criticisms and uses some of it as motivation to play better.
Kumbaga keyboard warrior lang yan eh, wala akong mapapala dyan, wala akong matutunan dyan,” Quiambao said. “Once na makikita mga comments nila, added motivation din yun na, kailangan ko pang magstrive for more wala akong and then, ayun na, yung resulta na lang, bahala sa kanila.”
