China vs Korea for 10-ball title; Amit out

CHEN Siming bested compatriot Fu Xiaofang, 9-6, to reach the finals of the Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship at Robinsons Galleria yesterday.

Kim Ga-young, runner-up in 2010 and third placer last year, put one over fellow South Korean Cha Yu-ram, 9-5, to seal the other finals berth.

Chen earlier nipped Chan Ho-yun of Chinese Taipei, 8-7; Kim ousted 2010 winner and tournament Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, 8-5; Fu outclassed Liu Shasha of China, 8-6; and Cha nipped L.H. Shan of Chinese Taipei, 8-4.

Shan booted out last Filipino hopeful Rubilen Amit, 8-2, in the Last 16.

Amit, the former world 9-ball champion, reached the Final 16 after edging young countryman Cheska Centeno, 8-5, in the Last 24.

Another Filipino campaigner, Iris Rañola failed to reach the knockout stage after a poor showing in her group play.

“I want to win this more than any title I’ve ever won or played for in my life,” said Chen through an interpreter.

For her part, the bombshell Kim said she has been eyeing the World 10-Ball title for a long time.

“I’ve won everything there is to win except the World 10-Ball Championship.” said Kim. “That’s why I want to win this more than anything else.” Steve Silva, Contributor
