Members of the Olongapo Junior Trackers team are not only inspired but fully motivated going into the 2024 Batang Pinoy in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan this week for they’re also geared with equipment to help them win. Paris Olympian Maxine Esteban and 1Pacman Partylist first nominee Milka Romero gifted the track bets with brand new running shoes as they responded to the touching appeal of the team coach who reached out for help in providing the young student-athletes their gears for the competition. Esteban and Romero gave away a total 83 pairs of shoes from Anta Philippines, with both present during a simple turnover ceremony last Saturday. The athletes were accompanied by their head coach, Samuel Bada and Olongapo City Sports and Youth Development head David Bayarong. “Apart from the things that they gave out, it’s also the moral support that these kids feel that’s important,” said Bayarong. Knowing the plight of being a student-athlete, Esteban said it was not really a hard decision to lend a hand to those who are really in need, especially that she’s been wanting to help elevate the sports in the country and help discover the next Filipino Olympians.
