World Senior Chess Championship: PH wins 2 golds, bronze
MANILA – The Philippines wrapped up its campaign in the 32nd World Senior Chess Championships Friday with two gold and one bronze medals in the competition held at the Hotel Villa Baleira on Porto Santo Island, Portugal.
International Master Chito Danilo Garma of Sampaloc, Manila ruled the gold of the Blitz event in the 50+ category with an impressive 8-1 record.
Article continues after this advertisementFIDE Master Mario Mangubat, who hails from Minglanilla town in Cebu, won the Rapid event in the 65 + category with 4.5 points out of six games.

Mangubat also secured the Blitz bronze medal in the 65+category, scoring 5.5 points.
Article continues after this advertisementIn the standard time control format, Garma placed 24th among 80 players in the 50 and above category, International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad ranked No. 46 while Mangubat was No. 48 among 89 entries in the 65 over category.
National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. served as coach and head of the Philippine team supported by the Philippine Sports Commission. (PNA)
