NCAA: Allen Liwag bags MVP, three more awards in Season 100

MANILA, Philippines—College of St. Benilde’s Allen Liwag was awarded accordingly for his breakout run in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament before Game 2 of the Season 100 Finals at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
Liwag, who powered the Blazers to the Finals, registered 52.38 PAV (Player Average Value) at the end of the elimination round to stand atop the competition and become Benilde’s second MVP in three seasons after Will Gozum in 2022.
Article continues after this advertisementThe former Emilio Aguinaldo College averaged a double-double of 14.61 points and 11.28 rebounds per game for the Blazers to end up with a 14-4 record.

Liwag served as Benilde’s anchor en route to the school’s return to the grandest stage against Mapua in the ongoing best-of-three showdown.
Article continues after this advertisementLiwag also secured a spot in the Mythical Five team alongside fellow Blazer Tony Ynot, Finals rival Clint Escamis, San Sebastian’s Tristan Felebrico and Lyceum’s John Barba.
The 6-foot-6 big also snagged the Season 100’s Defensive Player of the Year plum, all while being part of the tournament’s All-Defensive five.

Joining Liwag in Season 100’s best defensive were Arellano’s JL Capulong, EAC’s Wilmar Oftana, Letran’s Kevin Santos and Felebrico of the Golden Stags.

Capulong also took home the Most Improved Player of the Year award for being the silver lining in the Chiefs’ forgettable season.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, had themselves a player who took home multiple citations as well.
Chris Hubilla, a talent out of San Beda’s high school basketball program, won the Freshman of the Year and the Rookie of the Year award.
Hubilla winning the plum for best rookie marked the second straight Mapuan to win the award after Escamis, who won the award with MVP honors last season.
