Sandugo-SSC eyes first round sweep vs FEU

SANDUGO-San Sebastian, fresh from its conquest of defending champion Philippine Army, guns for a sweep of the first round of the Shakey’s V-League Open against winless Far Eastern today at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Lady Stags shoot for a fifth straight victory at 4 p.m. just two days after the star-studded crew slipped past Army in five pulsating sets, 25-16, 17-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10.

“It’s about playing with a strong heart,” SSC coach Roger Gorayeb said in Filipino Sunday night.

The Lady Troopers try to wrap up their first-round campaign with a win over Ateneo at 6 p.m., while Cagayan Valley also hopes to stay in the upper bracket when it tackles Philippine Navy at 2 p.m.

Army coach Rico de Guzman said his Lady Troopers have already brushed aside the loss that snapped their three-game streak.

“It’s far from over. We’re all still jockeying for the No. 1 or No. 2 position,” De Guzman said.

The Lady Troopers, who slipped to second at 3-1, hope to start strong this time behind Rachel Ann Daquis and Michelle Carolino.
