MANILA, Philippines—Former University of the Philippines teammates Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan went head-to-head in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) on Monday.

Tamayo ended up on the winning side after helping the Changwon LG Sakers turn back the Suwon KT Sonicboom, 78-70, at Suwon KT Arena.

The 23-year-old Tamayo, who has been on a torrid stretch for Changwon, cooled off but still contributed eight points, five rebounds and two assists and a steal as the LG Sakers upped their mark to 16-13.

Prior to the game, Tamayo had scored at least 10 points in his last 11 games, including a combined 68 points on a blistering 74 percent from the field in his previous two outings. It was his first single-digit scoring performance since tallying eight points last December 7 in a win over the Wonju DB Promy in a game where he logged 11 minutes off the bench.

Cagulangan, on the other hand, had nine points and three assists three days after a solid KBL debut for Suwon where he collected seven points, four rebounds, nine assists and five steals in 22 minutes of action.

The heady playmaker, however, has yet to taste victory since joining the Sonicboom just less than a month after leading the Fighting Maroons’ march back to the UAAP mountaintop.
