EJ Laure makes Nxled debut, working ‘double time’ amid busy schedule

MANILA, Philippines — Despite a hectic schedule ahead, EJ Laure relished her Nxled debut in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday.
Laure has a lot on her plate with an upcoming wedding with longtime partner Bugoy Cariño in March.
The 27-year-old Laure, who signed with Nxled last year, finally opened a new chapter with the Chameleons and delivered eight points off the bench in a 22-25, 24-26, 21-25 loss to the Farm Fresh Foxies at the resumption of the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

It may not be the result she wanted as Nxled remained winless but she’s thrilled to finally play her first game with the Chameleons.
“‘Yun naman talaga ang nilo-look forward ko ngayon na siyempre ma-feel ko ulit ‘yung court na ang tagal ko din nawala,” Laure said. “Gusto ko talaga makita sa kanila ‘yung lumalaban every game na bibigyan namin sila ng fight [every game]. Sobra ‘yung potential nila na lahat talaga competitive pag sa training.”
Laure shared that she’s been working double time for Nxled as she had to catch up with the new system and coach Ettore Guidetti, while juggling her preparation for their upcoming wedding with former child actor Cariño.
“Hindi ako nakaka-attend minsan ng training pero nagdo-double time ako para maka-catch up sa na-miss kong training.

With Nxled slipping to a 0-6 record, the soon-to-be-bride Laure remained committed to improving her game to help her team enter the win column.
“Ang mindset ko and namin siyempre bibigay pa rin namin ‘yung best namin kasi maganda naman talaga tinatraining namin, gagawin lang namin siya sa game,” Laure said. “Yung receive ko talaga [kulang pa] pero mag-do-double time tayo diyan.”
