PVL: After knee cleanup, Brooke Van Sickle back to help out Petro Gazz

MANILA, Philippines — Limited action didn’t stop Brooke Van Sickle from helping extend Petro Gazz’s s winning streak to five games in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Van Sickle took precautions in the first few sets after having a a minor procedure in her left knee last December but her impact completed Petro Gazz’s comeback from a two-set deficit to survive Chery Tiggo, 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-7 on Tuesday night at Philsports Arena.

“It was just me and the coaching staff and management. We always have conversations every day to update on how I feel. I did have a minor procedure done the day after we played Cignal. It’s just something super small. I just had a little cleanup for my knee. But I feel a lot better now. In the beginning, I was a little bothered by it. But I feel really great now,” said Van Sickle.
“I’m happy with my teammates. I’m happy with their performance. I’m happy everyone got to play. It was a good match.”

The reigning PVL MVP scored seven of her 10 points in the fifth set and had 11 digs with Myla Pablo and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas taking charge with 18 points each.
Van Sickle drilled three clutch aces in the fourth, where the Angels dominated with a 10-0 run to end the set and force a decider.
“I’m super proud of everyone. I’m pretty sure almost the whole team played.. And everyone brought great energy. It didn’t matter who was on the court. Yeah, we did start a little rough, but we did come off break. Not that it’s an excuse. But Chery is a good team. I feel like we go with them all the time, five sets,” she said. “We were able to figure it out, go through the rough patches, and work on it. So, I feel like we got better today as a team. So, I’m really happy.”

The Filipino-American spiker credited their hard-fought win to her teammates, who showed resilience to fight back from a two-set deficit.
“Everyone came in crunch times and were able to stay calm and steady.Being down two sets, especially winning that third set when it was super close, that’s huge. said Van Sickle.
“At first, we kind of got a little quiet, but Rem (Palma) did step up. She gathered us and said, hey, we need to pick up energy. I think that’s a huge part of volleyball. It’s not just skill, but I think mentality and energy also.”
Van Sickle and the Angels will have a long break before facing ZUS Coffee.
