MANILA, Philippines — Akari is holding its breath after captain Mich Cobb suffered an apparent neck injury in the second set of its bounce-back win over sister team Nxled in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at Philsports Arena.

Cobb hurt her neck as she was stuck during the roll after she tried to save the ball when Akari was leading the second set, 5-3. She was stretchered off the court and had a neck brace on by the league’s medical team.

“Siguro po mas kinuhanan namin ng lakas ng loob si ate Mich kasi siyempre po para sa kanya din tong laro na ito,” said Ivy Lacsina, who had 17 points. “Kaya kami nagstay focus dahil nga po doon sa binubuo naming culture ng team doon kami nagstick and tinuturo ni coach habang naglalaro.”

Eli Soyud conspired with Faith Nisperos to finish with 15 points each as the former had six blocks.

“Gusto din ni Mich maglaro kami as one and ipanalo yung game ngayon para din sa kumpiyansa ng team so mas ginalingan namin and humugot kami lakas,” Soyud said.

Akari has been missing Grethcel Soltones for the past two games due to a jumper’s knee, while Ced Domingo has yet to return from a knee injury last Reinforced Conference.

“I think after the PLDT game, she tried to play against PLDT, but she still have a pain on the knee. And after PLDT game, in these three days, she made it for checking up. And we don’t have any result. So, we’re not sure, but hopefully, she can come back soon,” Minowa said.
