From January 19 to 21, 1Pacman sports figures conducted sessions after sessions of basketball clinics in Barangay Paagahan, Mabitac, and in Barangay Wawa, Siniloan, in Laguna. The Sangguniang Kabataan ng Barangay Paagahan earnestly presented its enthusiasm on the conduct of the sporting activities. Basketball continues to be a top sport of choice among Filipinos, with basketball courts tucked in street corners or well set up in city and school gymnasiums, and designated areas managed by barangays.

In scheduling these activities, 1Pacman Party-list chairman and first nominee Milka Romero said 1Pacman and the organizers are both pleased and gratified by the earnest participation of young people who want to learn more sporting skills as well as be in community with other players.
“While 1Pacman’s advocacy for sports and youth development has basis from real-life, actual experiences in many nations around the world, 1Pacman’s passion to achieve the best for Filipinos in terms of sporting excellence rests mainly on our own Filipino sportsmen and their families experiences,” Milka states.
The country has produced world-class athletes in many fields, with Manny Pacquaio included here with his sensational, record-breaking achievements in boxing that has given the Philippines great pride and honor. The roster of Filipino sports achievers is long, and in many fields, but the real work starts with the young, and providing the best possible support at the earliest time possible.
1Pacman does not have to look far, too, for people who would testify on the transformative power of sports. Milka Romero, who is now owner of the Capital1 Solar Spikers, a team with the Philippine Volleyball League, was a member of Philippine football national team.
“Naikot ko ang buong Pilipinas, kasama ng aking teammates. We met new frriends and had a sense of community. Now, I live and breathe this advocacy for a grassroots program across our country so more young Filipinos can enjoy the benefit of sports and live the life of athletes who become determined about their goals.”
Milka is the daughter of 1Pacman Party List Rep. Mikee Romero, former Deputy House Speaker and current chairman of the Committee on Poverty Alleviation.
Congressman Romero clocked in three consecutive terms at the House of Representatives, One of the 144 laws he authored and co-sponsored is the Republic Act No. 11214, which mandated the construction of the Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC) is institutionalized. To be run by the Philippine Sports Commission, it is set to be the home to develop sports in the country, achieve excellence in international sports competitions, as well as achieve competitiveness in the Olympic Games.
Before entering politics, Romero already provided substantial support to Phiippine sports and was labelled Godfather of Philippine Amateur Basketball. A former collegiate basketball player, he moved on to achieve, among other sporting glories, a good spot for the Philippines in the game of polo.
Another sportsman, Bobby Pacquiao, Manny’s brother who is also a former member of the House of Representatives, is among 1Pacman nominees in the forthcoming mid-term elections.
