MANILA, Philippines — Bernadeth Pons’ talent continued to flourish with the Creamline Cool Smashers, who remained unbeaten in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference thanks in large part to her efforts.

Creamline squandered a two-set advantage before Pons helped restore order after firing 27 points in a 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9, escape against Cignal on Saturday night at Philsports Arena.

“Gusto ko lang din talagang maging consistent. Yung goal ko lang talaga everyday sa training pa lang, mag-improve na kahit one percent lang everyday,” said Pons, the Reinforced Conference MVP, who had 24 kills, two aces, and a block on top of 14 digs.

Pons, a bench player for Creamline when she returned to indoor action two years ago, credited her steady rise to their talent-rich roster led by MVPs Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Alyssa Valdez, and Michele Gumabao.

“Sa training kasi, nacha-challenge din talaga ako kasi sobrang competitive ng lahat. Pahirapan pumuntos, walang nagpapabagsak ng bola. As a player talaga, nacha-challenge din ako sa mga kasama ko, sobrang laking bagay yun sa akin na pagdating ng laro, hindi talaga ako papayag na basta-basta,” she said.

The Far Eastern University product showed her composure and helped re-energize her team in the final frame after playing lethargic in the third and fourth sets.

“Nung fifth set di na namin inisip na down two sets kami. Parang zero-zero na kasi. Ang ganda lang nung fifth set kasi parang bumalik yung energy ng team, kasi nawala talaga nung third and fourth set. Parang ang medyo matamlay. Pero nung fifth set, talagang bumalik yung energy ng bawat isa,” Pons said.

Pons and the Cool Smashers, who are aiming for a fifth consecutive All-Filipino crown, eye their eighth win on Thursday against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
