7’s Football League welcomes four new teams for 2025 season

MANILA, Philippines—Originally fielding seven teams for competition, the AIA 7’s Football League underwent an expansion and added four more teams for its 2025 season.

Federation president Anton Del Rosario announced the development during the 7×7 Sports Development International’s press conference on Tuesday, saying the expansion is a step forward in introducing seven-a-side football to a wider audience.

The boom in numbers of football talents played a factor, but the former national football player also cited the need for developing the country’s youth in the sport of football

“Most importantly, we talk about the youth. The youth now have an avenue to play more because we create more platforms for them here and they’ll get their dream of playing with professionals,” said Del Rosario during the event presented by Skechers.

“This also allows us to provide opportunities for players like Stephan Schrock, Daisuke Sato and other footballers across the country who might not be playing at the national team level but they can come here and have some fun.”

Last season, the 7’s Football League fielded teams from Siniloan, Parañaque, Bonifacio Global City, Pasig, Alabang, Quezon City and eventual 2024 champion, Pampanga.

Quezon City may have backed out from the league but in came the additions of Biñan, Bulacan, Carmona and Cavite to up the number of competing teams to 10.

Kickoff for the 7’s league is on February 16 with all the games happening at McKinley Hill Stadium in BGC, Taguig, every weekend.
