Kaya blanks PAF, rules Kia Cup

KAYA shut out Air Force, 2-0, yesterday to rule the men’s open division of the Kia Cup at Alabang Country Club.

Sean Iliff and Anton Ugarte struck in each half as the United Football League side captured the crown of the seven-a-side tournament that also featured a clinic for kids conducted by members of the national team.

Both teams featured members of the national team with Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta bannering Air Force, while Jason Sabio, Aly Borromeo and OJ Porteria played for Kaya.

While Sabio and Borromeo kept the backline solid and Porteria created at least three golden chances, it was the less heralded players who finished off the multititled Airmen.

Sikat FC ruled the women’s division with University of Santo Tomas ending up second.

Champion age-group teams: Makati FC (boys’ 10-under), Loyola Meralco (boys’ 12-under), La Salle Green Hills (boys’ 14-under), Kaya (boys’ 16-under), De La Salle U (boys 18-under), De La Salle-Zobel (girls’ 17-under).
