US Open doubles: Huey, British partner bow out

FILIPINO doubles specialist Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Ingot bowed to their fifth-seeded foes Saturday in the second round of the men’s doubles of the US Open in New York City.

Huey, who made the third round in Flushing Meadows last year, and Ingot lost to Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Peya and Soares advanced against Czech Republic’s Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak of Slovakia.

Huey and Ingot stunned Americans James Blake and Sam Querrey, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7), in the first round.

Huey, world No. 37 in doubles, is expected to move higher in the rankings which should be a morale booster when he leads the Philippines to the Davis Cup tie against Indonesian on Sept. 14 to 16.

Huey is expected to play doubles with Francis Casey Alcantara, a former Australian Open juniors doubles champion. Marc Anthony Reyes
