Tennis: Fifth seed Kvitova ousted at US Open

NEW YORK – Czech fifth seed Petra Kvitova was eliminated from the US Open on Sunday by French 11th seed Marion Bartoli, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets on the women’s side with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Bartoli, who reached her first US Open quarter-final in her 11th attempt, advanced to a quarter-final matchup against the winner of a later match between Russian third seed Maria Sharapova and Russian 19th seed Nadia Petrova.
