KBL: UP products Carl Tamayo, JD Cagulangan shine in separate wins

MANILA, Philippines—Korea was painted maroon with former University of the Philippines standouts Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan emerging victorious in their respective games in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) recently.

At Sajik Arena on Thursday, Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers downed the KBL’s defending kings KCC Egis, 83-78, to remain in the upper portion of the KBL standings.

Tamayo, the league’s Round 3 MVP, stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in the dub.

The win helped the LG Sakers keep a strong hold of the second seed with a 23-14 record.

Meanwhile, Cagulangan and the Suwon KT Sonicboom outlasted the Wonju DB Promy, 83-76, at Sonicboom Arena on Friday.

The UAAP Season 87 Finals MVP was a problem on both ends of the floor with 10 points, four assists, three steals and a rebound to help pace Suwon to a 21-16 card.

Wonju, on the other hand, lost its fifth straight game but not without the efforts of Filipino import Ethan Alvano.

Alvano finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists with five rebounds but to no avail as DB Promy slid down to 16-21 for the season.
