How Barangay Ginebra rookie RJ Abarrientos plays following death threats—some explicit and some thinly veiled—hurled at him online will be among the subplots on Sunday’s pair of Game 3s that will decide the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals.

The PBA bared on the eve of the doubleheader that it had sought the help of authorities after Abarrientos received death threats for missing a game-tying four-point shot that sealed Ginebra’s 108-104 loss to Meralco in Game 2 at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

MANILA, Philippines—Meralco and Barangay Ginebra going at it in another grindout battle in the PBA playoffs is nothing new.

Certainly not for longtime Gin Kings import Justin Brownlee.

MANILA, Philippines—Instead of wallowing on the missed chance to close out the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals in Game 2, Justin Arana said they will use the 2 loss  as added motivation for their upcoming do-or-die game.

The FiberXers had a chance to punch their ticket to the semifinals on Friday but ultimately flopped when they lost to the Elasto Painters, 114-104, losing their headstart in the best-of-three series.
