GLOBAL Port does not see an aging star in Willie Miller but a veteran, who can provide the experience the team needs when it debuts in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Global interim coach Glenn Capacio said he expects the 35-year-old Miller to blend well with top gunner Gary David along with the rookies led by Vic Manuel.

“Willie is still strong, he’s not yet prone to injuries so I think he’ll be with our team for quite some time,” said Capacio. “Definitely, he will play a big role in the team.”

Miller bagged his first MVP with Red Bull in 2002, then picked up his second with Alaska in 2006.

An 11-time All-Star player, Miller also suited up for Ginebra and Talk ‘N Text in his decade-long pro career.

Team owner Mikee Romero also hopes Miller, who was part of a blockbuster five-team trade recently, can quickly find his stride with Batang Pier.

“We now have a very competitive team so it’s just a matter of blending,” said Romero. “I just hope coach Glenn can find the right chemistry for the team in time for the conference. Besides, Miller is out to prove something, so we’ll give him the support he needs.”

The 5-foot-10 Miller is expected to arrive from a European vacation next week and join his new team.

“If he clicks with [David], we have a strong chance,” said Capacio. “It would be better if we can prepare longer, so I hope he can join us by next week.”
