UAAP: Angel Canino says ‘expect a lot from me’ in La Salle title bid

MANILA, Philippines — Angel Canino is determined to settle her unfinished business as she leads La Salle’s redemption bid in this UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.
Expect the former rookie MVP winner to be all out as she embraces the team captain role for the new-look La Salle, which lost several players from last year’s bronze medal finish.

“I think you can expect a lot from me this coming Season 87 compared to how we played in the preseason,” Canino told Inquirer Sports. “Expect us to fight hard every game. We won’t go down without a fight.”
“We expect a good fight from ourselves because we worked hard for Season 87, and we have a lot of motivation to get our revenge.”
With La Salle dethroned by the twice-to-beat University of Santo Tomas in the Final Four last year, Canino said their heartbreaking finish in Season 86, where she missed some games due to a right forearm injury, will be her biggest motivation to get back to the top.

“It’s a huge motivation for us as a team, especially for me, since I missed a lot of games,” Canino told reporters. “I don’t want that to happen again—I want to contribute to the team, not just be on the sidelines.”
“I really want to help the team in any way I can, and that’s a big motivation for me,” she said. “As Lady Spikers, our goal is always to win the championship. It was tough for us, even though we got bronze last year. So now, we’ll try to raise our level and be the best version of ourselves.”
Canino is armed with her experience with Alas Pilipinas, winning the Best Opposite Spiker in their AVC Challenge Cup bronze finish last June.
“Kung ano naman po yung natutunan ko po sa Alas, tinatry ko na i-adapt din po doon sa La Salle. Siyempre kapag kasama mo yung mga ates nyo po marami ka pong matututunan lalo na po kapag naglalaro, yung maturity sa loob, kailangan hindi lang palo ng palo, kailangan all-around ka,” said the third year wing spiker.
