Alas carries Letran past Lyceum; Pinto wins it for Arellano over Mapua

MANILA, Philippines—Kevin Alas exploded for 30 points as Letran pummeled hapless Lyceum, 76-60, Thursday in the 88th NCAA seniors basketball competition at the San Juan Arena.

Alas was unstoppable on the attack all game, taking a breather for only a minute, and also dished out six assists for the Knights, who hiked their record to 7-6.

Raymond Almazan added 15 points for Letran, which also pushed the Pirates to an eight-game slide for a 2-11 slate.

Meanwhile, Arellano stunned Mapua, 59-57, on a game-winner by John Pinto with 2.7 seconds left on the clock to forge a 5-8 logjam.

Pinto had eight markers for the Chiefs while James Forrester paced the squad with 19 points.

Josan Nimes and Mike Parala combined for 13 points for the Cardinals on a losing effort.
