Kayak tilt highlights Zamba fest

Shaping up as a sports destination in Central Luzon, Zambales is expected to draw about 4,000 participants to the 3rd Zambales Multi-Sport Festival on Nov. 9 to 11.

Organizers have set up 5K and 10K foot races as well as the expanded 2nd leg of the Philippine Kayaking Series 2012—an eco-adventure sport of open-water swimming, kayaking, running and biking.

The highlight of the kayaking series is the 32 km kayak marathon from Candelaria to Masinloc and back, and the 18K tri-plus-one event, featuring a 1.5K open water swim, 5K kayak, 10K bike and a 2K beach run.

“We believe that sports tourism will play a key role in attracting visitors to Zambales and this sports festival will certainly give them a chance to explore and enjoy our natural attractions,’’ said Zambales Gov. Jun Ebdane.

Also part of the weekend activities is a 60K duathlon race.

The country’s longest-running kayak event, the Philippine Kayaking Series highlights coastal, channel and island-crossings, community and cultural interaction, kayaking clinics and eco-touring.  June Navarro
