MANILA, Philippines — A first PVL All-Filipino Conference championship is Petro Gazz’s goal but Brooke Van Sickle knows they can’t get too ahead of themselves despite winning 10 straight games on their way to the quarterfinals.

Van Sickle sustained her fine form with 19 points, 14 receptions, and nine digs to lead Petro Gazz past qualifying round opponent Capital1, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, and enter the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference playoffs on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

MANILA, Philippines — Determined to help Choco Mucho reach the promised land, Dindin Santiago-Manabat is soaking in her “dream” first playoffs as a Flying Titan in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

FEATURED STORIES

Manabat, acquired by Choco Mucho last year before the Reinforced Conference, backstopped Sisi Rondina with 13 points to sweep Chery Tiggo, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23, and book a ticket to the quarterfinals on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

It will be her first quarterfinals with the Flying Titans after missing the playoffs in the Reinforced tournament but and she is determined to make a deep run and prove to be a missing piece for the back-to-back All-Filipino runner-ups.

MANILA, Philippines — Myla Pablo has already proven herself as one of the best hitters in the league with two PVL Reinforced titles.

But in Petro Gazz’s playoffs entry in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference, expect a smarter version of Pablo after her resurgence led her team to 10 straight wins and sent Capital1 to the play-in with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 win in the qualifying round on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

“I’ve been playing for a long time now. I’ve been through a lot, especially when it comes to playoffs. As a player, it’s not just about strength. You also need to be smart,” Pablo told Inquirer Sports in Filipino after pouring in 17 points.

Sisi Rondina, once again, powered the Flying Titans but rookie Lorraine Pecaña and veterans Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Royse Tubino also rose to the occasion to book a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Choco Mucho, which finished fifth in the elimination record with an 8-3 record, will face the winner of the PLDT-ZUS Coffee qualifying game in a best-of-three series.

“The AVC called us and said they need the teams right away. The drawing lots is on March 12 so we cannot wait until the end of the tournament. Second-ranked Petro Gazz and fifth-seeded Choco Mucho set out on Saturday probably having one thing in mind: not follow Cignal’s way.

After the HD Spikers became the first team from the upper half of the KO draw to drop to the loser’s bracket in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, the Angels and the Flying Titans take their turns facing lower-ranked foes and would obviously not want to hit the showers this early in the centerpiece tournament.

Brooke Van Sickle leads the Angels in the 4 p.m. contest against 11th-ranked Capital1, while Deanna Wong orchestrates the Choco Mucho offense against No. 5 Chery Tiggo in the 6 p.m. game with the winners advancing to the quarterfinals.
