MANILA, Philippines — Lilay Del Castillo unleashed her breakout game for La Salle in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament in honor of her late mother Lilian.
The sophomore middle blocker played extra inspired as she scattered four blocks, four aces, and three attacks to finish with 11 points and helped La Salle overcome the University of the Philippines, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17 on Sunday, which coincides with her mother’s birthday day.

“I’m super duper happy with my performance today because when I woke up, I told myself I’d dedicate this game to my mom since it’s her 61st birthday today. I said I’d do my best to make her proud,” Del Castillo said in Filipino. “I know she always has the best seat in the arena. So, I promised myself I’d give my best for my nanay, always.”

Far Eastern University ended its losing skid by surviving Ateneo, 25-15, 20-25,25-17, 24-26, 15-11, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“I’m very happy with their performance. But like I said, it shouldn’t be lacking—they need to be ready in case situations like this happen,” coach Tina Salak said. “Still, it was a convincing win… We want to push them even more so that by the second round, we’re fully prepared to fight back against all the struggles we’re facing now.”
The Lady Tamaraws capitalized on their net defense with a significant 20-2 advantage on blocks to improve to a 2-2 record from back-to-back losses.

UAAP: La Salle coaches ‘super proud’ to see Bocboc guide his own team

MANILA, Philippines — La Salle coaches Ramil De Jesus and Noel Orcullo were proud to see their former colleague, Benson Bocboc step out of his shadows as the mentor of the young University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
For the first time since 2016, De Jesus and the Lady Spikers faced one of his deputies and had to overcome UP’s gallant stand before pulling off a 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“As usual, it’s the same because being a coach is part of our job. So, whatever coach Boc offers us in the game, we’ll just match it,” said Orcullo in Filipino.

MANILA, Philippines–La Salle corrected its ship by defeating University of the Philippines (UP), 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“There’s no weak team in the UAAP today. Every game you play is a challenge,” La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said in Filipino.
“Every team plays a high level so you cannot say that the opponent is weak that’s why you need to overcome whatever it is that your opponent is going to throw at you,” he added.

SCHEDULE: UAAP Season 87 volleyball tournament first round
MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University played through health woes and overcame a game Ateneo side, 25-23, 32-30, 23-25, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Dryx Saavedra and Mikko Espertaro led the charge with 21 points apiece for the Tamaraws, who soldiered on to their fourth straight win in as many games despite most of their players coming off an illness.
“The team has been struggling these past few days. Some of the players got sick, but with God’s guidance and the support we’ve received, we showed that we really needed this game. We couldn’t afford to slack off because we didn’t want to waste our 3-0 standing,” said FEU deputy Rene Dulay in Filipino, speaking for head coach Eddieson Orcullo.
