MANILA, Philippines — Jia De Guzman won’t play for Creamline in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League in April due to her commitments with her Japanese club, Denso AiryBees in the SV.League.

Amid the clamor of the fans in hopes of seeing the eight-time PVL Best Setter in action again for the Cool Smashers in the Champions League, her husband, Miguel clarified that Jia will play in Japan until May as she is focused on her team’s current campaign in division 1 with a 25-9 record in second place.

“Just to clarify: Jia is with the Denso Airybees for the 2024-2025 season, which ends in May. All teams in the S.VLeague are working hard to make it to the Championship round,” Miguel wrote on Instagram. “ What we should all be wishing for is seeing Jia and Denso play until May, and nothing else. Let’s pray for Denso’s success this season. Denso’s success is Jia’s success.”

“I’m sure Creamline and PetroGazz will represent the country well in the Champions League with their respective line-ups,” he said.

Creamline, De Guzman’s PVL club, expressed its support for its longtime setter and Alas Pilipinas captain’s overseas stint.

“We also want to express our heartfelt support for Jia De Guzman, who’s currently under contract with Denso Airybees until May. As Denso gears up for the SVL Championship round, we acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the players, especially Jia, who truly embodies the spirit of our sport,” the club wrote.
