MANILA, Philippines–La Salle wrapped up its UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament first round with a four-game winning run after blanking Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Shevana Laput led the way with 22 points on 18 attacks, three blocks and an ace for the Lady Spikers, who rose to solo third carrying a 5-2 card.

Mikole Reyes was also instrumental in the victory with 20 excellent sets that allowed Alleiah Malaluan and Angel Canino to add 12 and 10 points, respectively.

“Happy ako kasi kahit halos hindi kami nakapagpahinga and then halos wala rin kaming time para mag-aral dun sa FEU so at least yung short time na yun nagawa nila yung mga game plan namin… and then yung focus nila nandun pa rin hanggang sa matapos yung game,” coach Ramil de Jesus said.

“Yes, despite the short turnover our team just really worked hard. We wanted to end this round on a high note which I think we have done and so that we can just continue this energy, effort going into us in round 2,” Laput said.

After cruising to a 2-0 set advantage, La Salle had to withstand a tough challenge by FEU in a back-and-forth third set.

The Lady Tamaraws didn’t have a single player finishing in double digits with Faida Bakanke’s nine points pacing the team. Gerz Petallo added eight points while Tin Ubaldo dished out 12 excellent sets.

FEU, which saw its winning streak end at three games, dropped to fourth at 4-3.
