PVL: Sisi Rondina, Choco Mucho show mighty grit in comeback win

MANILA, Philippines — With Choco Mucho on the verge of dropping Game 1, Sisi Rondina refused to lose and willed the Flying Titans past the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals Saturday night.
Rondina poured in 31 points to lead Choco Mucho’s comeback win, 20-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 18-16, as the Flying Titans inched closer to a semifinals appearance.
“We know sometimes we’re at a disadvantage, but we keep our composure, adjust, and we do what we need to when the game is really on the line. No one stops until it’s over—that’s the attitude we had in the game,” said Rondina in Filipino after nailing the game-winning off-the-block hit and contributing 15 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

“As long as it’s not over, we’ll keep fighting. We’ll give it our all, no matter what,” she added.
The former PVL All-Filipino MVP attributed their furious fightback to the adjustments coach Dante Alinsunurin made, which included fielding Mars Alba in the third set.
The backup setter finished with 16 excellent sets and three points, highlighted by a clutch spike in the decider.

“Since the third set, things changed. I just listened when Mars came in and reminded us to have patience and trust. I also told them as long as they don’t win three sets, we can still bounce back,” Rondina said.
“That’s really all that was in my mind. Just contribute, help wherever I can. Everyone’s desire to win really showed.”
Rondina and the Flying Titans try to bring out the broom and sweep the High Speed Hitters in Game 2 on Thursday at the same venue in Pasig City.
