MANILA, Philippines—Ginebra gutted out a Game 2 win over TNT in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals with another gargantuan effort from import Justin Brownlee.
Despite tying the series at 1-1, though, Brownlee found no satisfaction in breaking TNT’s win streak over the Gin Kings that spanned four games, including last conference’s last two Finals games.
“There’s still no satisfaction right now. I think we just have to stay hungry, especially without history with this team,” said Brownlee after their nail-biting 71-70 win over TNT at Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

MANILA, Philippines—In an unusual display, TNT was caught in a whirlwind of poor defense and bad offense in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals–specifically in the second quarter.
Ginebra tied the series against Tropang Giga with a tight 71-70 win in Game 2 where its opponent was held to four measly points in the second quarter.
The Gin Kings opened with a strong start and ended the opening period 21-15, but instead of a TNT fightback–something else happened left even coach Tim Cone slightly surprised.

“These guys just showed true grit all the way through the game … they just reached really deep to make two incredible stops,” head coach Tim Cone said shortly after the escape act that leveled the best-of-seven series at a game apiece.

For about five tense minutes on Friday night, TNT looked stuck, uneasy under the lights of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals. Then Roger Pogoy got going.
Three consecutive three-pointers from Pogoy snapped TNT out of its funk, helping the team shake off an early slump and seize control of Game 1 against Barangay Ginebra. By the final buzzer, Pogoy had tallied 15 points, second only to import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s 34, as TNT secured a 95-89 victory at Mall of Asia Arena.
The foundation for the win, however, was laid long before the opening tip.

Malonzo’s return on the PBA’s biggest stage, however, did not turn out well as Ginebra took a 95-89 loss to TNT in Game 1 of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals on Friday night at Mall of Asia Arena.
“[This is my] first finals [after a while], but I’ve been here before. I just need to get this one out of my way and try to have a better game next game for sure,” said Malonzo.

MANILA, Philippines—TNT coach Chot Reyes didn’t have the best morning on Friday. Fortunately for him, his night was so much better.
Reyes steered the Tropang Giga to a Game 1 win over Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals at Mall of Asia Arena on Friday night with a smile that spanned from ear-to-ear.
The multi-titled mentor couldn’t help but grin after recalling the forgettable game of golf he just played a few hours before the title series opener.
