MANILA, Philippines —While the five-set meltdown to National University exposed some of their flaws, it also showed that UST Tigresses are capable of giving the defending champions a run for their money despite the short-handed roster.
UST ended the first round UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament with a promising 5-2 card despite missing some key players from last year’s Finals run, and libero Detdet Pepito is taking the good with the bad.
“We’ll really push ourselves more because it was unexpected for us to have this kind of record, especially after the not-so-good start we had in the first game. But things have gotten better in the past few games,” said Pepito in Filipino. “The first round was a good gauge of how far we’ve come and what we can do.”

This close to a perfect first round, National University continues to keep its focus on getting better.
“I think NU’s performance will continue to improve going into the second round and Sunday’s final game of the first round,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Sherwin Meneses on Wednesday.
