UAAP: Adamson escapes UE, Ateneo blanks UP in men’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—University of the East came close to tasting its first victory but Adamson had other plans.
The Soaring Falcons dodged a bullet, withstanding a feisty effort by the Red Warriors, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12, on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Leo Coguimbal helped Adamson get out of harm’s way with 17 points as UE stumbled to its eighth consecutive setback.

“We have to work twice as hard during our training on team skills. That’s what we lack and we need to overcome that here in the second round,” said Coguimbal.
Helping Adamson seal the win and improve to 2-6 were Jude Aguilar and Marc Paulino, who both scored 15 apiece.
Red Warriors standouts Axel Defeo and Raquim Aceron turned in stellar outings with 22 and 20 points, respectively.
Ateneo sweeps UP
Ateneo, meanwhile, cruised to a dominant 25-16, 25-18, 25-21 victory over University of the Philippines.
Amil Pacinio paced the Blue Eagles with 17 points while MVP frontrunner Kennedy Batas helped the cause with 14, lifting his team to 5-3.

The duo of Dan Nicolas and Tommy Castrodes finished with 10 points each in a losing effort that saw UP drop to 2-6.
Ateneo goes for another win when it faces Adamson next Saturday at Araneta Coliseum.
