PVL: Bea De Leon anchors Creamline defense in quarterfinals win

ANTIPOLO — Bea De Leon stood tall to help Creamline sweep Chery Tiggo in their best-of-three quarterfinals in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
De Leon was at the forefront of Creamline’s net defense as she delivered five blocks to finish with 14 points in their semifinal-clinching 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 win over Chery Tiggo in Game 2 on Saturday at Ynares Center Antipolo.
“Coming to the game, I just wanted to play my role. I knew it’s gonna be hard, I wasn’t really scoring a lot, but I really wanted to make sure that I’d be able to help the team secure the win,” said De Leon, whose efforts on the defensive end provided Creamline enough resistance against a Chery Tiggo side that tallied 12 blocks to the Cool Smashers’ seven.

Armed with Creamline’s competitive training and winning system, the star middle blocker was consistent in the series, averaging 5.0 kill blocks in two games.
“Nasa sistema lang din po ako naka-base. Effective naman din siya, I put (my) trust to coach Sherwin’s system, and super bonus talaga na (nag-convert yung system) at pumupuntos siya,” De Leon said. “What I look for is yung tamang tapat, para matulungan yung depensa, kung ma-check ball maganda rin. Blessing na lang din ‘yung maka-score.”
Creamline has yet to miss the semifinals for the past 17 conferences as it joins Choco Mucho and Akari for another round-robin Final Four. Petro Gazz and ZUS Coffee dispute the last semis slot on Tuesday.

De Leon is grateful to be part of the Cool Smashers’ winning tradition.
“Yung culture din po talaga. Yung mindset po ng bawat isa from the leaders to everybody on the team. Sa coaches po, talagang there’s always more to learn, and we really try to give our best everyday, kahit pagod, kahit mahirap. For me, the standout is the winning culture,” she said.
De Leon and the Cool Smashers have a week to prepare for the semis, which opens next Saturday at the same venue in Antipolo.
