MANILA, Philippines — In the University of Santo Tomas’ second straight defeat to old rival Far Eastern University, Beth Hilongo emerged as a bright spot for the Golden Tigresses.

Hilongo unleashed a career-best 17 points on top of 11 digs and nine excellent receptions but UST fell to its second consecutive loss at the hands of FEU, 22-25, 24-26, 25-17, 26-24, to start the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball second round on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

While UST coach KungFu Reyes knows the team needs to work on its maturity, he’s pleased with the Golden Tigresses’ improving rotation including one of his ‘magic bunots’ Hilongo.

MANILA, Philippines — Detdet Pepito preached patience after University of Santo Tomas suffered back-to-back losses in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

UST started the second round on the wrong foot after falling to Far Eastern University anew, 22-25, 24-26, 25-17, 26-24, on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Pepito struggled against FEU with just seven receptions in 13 attempts while also tallying a 12-of-24 digging clip.

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University may still be looking for consistency but Gerz Petallo believes the team has the resiliency to hold onto after completing an elimination round sweep of old rival University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

When UST threatened to force a fifth set with a 17-11 lead in the fourth, Petallo took charge scoring five points to take a 20-19 advantage en route to a gritty 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24 victory on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“Our resiliency. If we talk about consistency, it’s a bit hard to maintain, but we always bounce back. We have this mindset of bouncing back because there’s always the next day, the next game. We value every game,” said Petallo in Filipino after tallying 12 points and 15 digs. “The grit is there. Even though we go through ups and downs, we need to rise and be better the next day.”

MANILA, Philippines–Far Eastern University (FEU) reasserted its dominance over University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Tamaraws swept their head-to-head matchups against the Golden Tigresses for the first time since Season 80, following a 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24, victory in the second round to improve to a 5-3 record, tied with UST.

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University swept rival University of Santo Tomas to keep its unbeaten run going while La Salle stopped defending champion National University in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball second round on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

FEU upped its record to 8-0 after surviving a neck-and-neck duel in the first two sets before completing a 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 win.

The Tamaraws were on the verge of dropping the first set down, 21-24, before unloading five straight points powered by Mikko Espartero, Amet Bituin, and Ariel Cacao.
