MANILA, Philippines—Things may be going well now for La Salle in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament but ace spiker Angel Canino believes the Lady Spikers have more to give.

Following the Lady Spikers’ dominant win over the University of the East at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, Canino reiterated that La Salle has yet to reach its peak despite the team’s winning ways in recent weeks.

“I can’t say that this is our peak but at the same time, we’re showing new skills and things so we’re happy for that but we’re still reaching for more,” said Canino after their 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 victory over the Lady Warriors.

MANILA, Philippines—La Salle’s Jillian Santos didn’t hold back from crediting her teammates following her performance at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

Santos was instrumental in the Lady Spikers’ sweep of the University of the East, 25-22, 25-13, 25-23, in the second round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

Instead of tooting her horn, though, Santos said her outing was bred from the trust and belief that her fellow Lady Spikers have in her.

MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo may not be in the best spot in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament standings, but coach Sergio Veloso is keeping an optimistic approach for the Blue Eagles’ pursuit of a Final Four spot.

On Saturday, Ateneo’s playoff chances grew slimmer after absorbing a straight-sets loss at the hands of the University of Santo Tomas, 15-25, 24-26, 24-26.

Veloso certainly knows where the Blue Eagles stand after that defeat but he’s not about to quit now, considering the squad still has a chance to make it to the Final Four.

UST swept Ateneo,, 25-15, 26-24, 26-24, on Saturday to bolster its positioning in the race for a playoff spot, thanks in big part to the efforts of Marga Altea.

UAAP: Tigresses, Lady Spikers continue jockeying for best Final Four position

KungFu Reyes

With the battle for a Final Four berth in Season 87 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament entering fever-pitch proportions, traditional powerhouses University of Santo Tomas and La Salle plunge back into action this Saturday, looking to keep on improving their current positions.

The 6-4 Golden Tigresses take on Ateneo in the 1 p.m. opening duel, and will do so with a renewed sense of zest and purpose after a hard-fought five-set win over Adamson last Wednesday that finally ended a three-game slide and kept them inside the circle of teams that will advance.

“We now have hope that in this transition, we’re able to continue adjusting,” said head coach KungFu Reyes, who heaved a sigh of relief as soon as his charges regained their winning ways.
