MANILA, Philippines — Steven Rotter made up for lost time with the Cignal HD Spikers, helping his team complete a historic three-peat and emerging as the Finals MVP of the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.

Seeing limited action in the Invitational Conference due to a Grade 2 ankle sprain, Rotter was eager to prove himself to the HD Spikers by helping them extend their dynasty.

“Before the conference started, I told coach Dexter that I wanted to strive for MVP. It took a lot. It took a lot of tears, smiles, laughter, anger, and all that,” said Rotter. “I’m just glad that at the end of the day, it all paid off.”

Rotter dropped 15 points in Game 3 to win the Finals MVP in Cignal’s title-clinching 25-22, 25-16, 28-26 win over Criss Cross on Sunday at Philsports Arena.

The Alas Pilipinas standout helped the HD Spikers win two important games in the finals after losing to the King Crunchers four times including the double-round elimination and the semis.

“It always feels good to be healthy, so I can provide whatever I can give to my team. It can be on the bench, around the court. Just my presence, my energy. Just trying to be as positive as I can be. Sometimes I get hard on myself but it’s great to be able to contribute and just be an overall good teammate and player to the Cignal management,” he said.

As he relished his first Spikers’ Turf title, fit-again Rotter looks forward to representing the country anew in the AVC Champions League in May.

“I’m looking forward to playing the best of the best—playing the top team in China, top team in Japan. It’s just an opportunity to play out of this world talent and I just want to show what we can do in the Philippines,” said Rotter.
