MANILA—China’s American coach Robert Donewald predicted his team will book the lone London Olympics ticket up for grabs in the Fiba Asia Championship in Wuhan, China, starting Sept. 15.

“There’s no doubt about it. Sept. 25 is the championships and we’re going to get that win,” Donewald told the China Daily recently.

Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman doesn’t agree.

“I think there are at least nine teams with a realistic chance of winning the title,” said Toroman, mentioning the Philippines, Iran, China, South Korea, Lebanon, Qatar, Jordan, Japan and Chinese-Taipei.

“It would be a tough [tournament] because it would be like nine crocodiles battling for three medals,” said Toroman. June Navarro
