Carl Tamayo part of KBL season’s ‘Best 5’

For his impressive performance for Changwon all season long, Filipino import Carl Tamayo was named into the Korean Basketball League’s Mythical 5 for the 2024-2025 season.

Tamayo, along with his former UP Fighting Maroons teammate and KBL Rookie of the Year JD Cagulangan, received the “Best 5” citation during the KCC Professional Basketball Awards ceremony in a hotel in Gangnam, South Korea on Wednesday.

In this first season in the KBL with the LG Sakers, he averaged 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists–highlighted by four 30-point games–making him one of the key players in their run to the playoffs as the second seed.

The Gilas Pilipinas player, who joined Changwon after two seasons with Ryukyu Golden Kings in the Japan B.League, posted a career-best of 37 points in January in a loss to Seoul Samsung Thunders.

Upon receiving his award, Tamayo thanked the LG organization, his teammates and his family.

In a recent interview, Tamayo said that he would like  “stay here longer” in the KBL if given the chance.

Joining Tamayo in the Best 5 are Kim Sunhyung, An Youngjun, Jameel Warney  and Assem Marei.
