Shakey’s V-League: San Sebastian overwhelms Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines – Top seed Sandugo-San Sebastian overwhelmed undermanned Ateneo, 25-13, 25-20, 25-9, Wednesday night in Game 1 of their best-of-three semifinals series of the Shakey’s V-League Season 9 Open Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Lady Stags wasted little time, building big leads early in each of the three sets as the Lady Eagles showed little resistance.

“It was expected that we’ll win,” said Sandugo head coach Roger Gorayeb. “Ateneo was short-handed.”

Fille Cainglet and Gretchen Ho didn’t play, both prioritizing their school work.

“It’s exam week at Ateneo and they can’t afford to be absent,” said Gorayeb, who coaches the Lady Eagles in the UAAP.

Jeng Bualee had 18 points and fellow Thai import Utaiwan Kaensing scored 10 points.

Game 2 is set on Friday with the Lady Stags looking to clinch a Finals berth.

Alyssa Valdez led Ateneo with 13 points.
