MANILA, Philippines — Aleiah Torres is embracing the big responsibility after getting her international stint with the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League.

Torres, who got a call-up to be one of Creamline’s two floor defenders, delivered 10 digs in their 29-27, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of Jordan’s Al Naser Club on Sunday at Philsports Arena.

Though she hardly saw action in the past PVL conferences, Torres, the lone Rookie Draft Pick of Creamline last year, is eager to show her mettle against Asian club teams.

“I think I’m just trying to do my best, take it game by game, point by point, so super happy and grateful for the challenge.

Creamline didn’t line up Tots Carlos and Bea De Leon due to minor injuries, while Torres took the spot of veteran libero Denden Lazaro-Revilla, taking turns with Kyla Atienza in defending the floor.

“Since the league only lasts for a week, we need everyone who plays to be at 100 percent. When you’re representing the Philippines, you really have to be at your best,” said coach Sherwin Meneses in Filipino.

The Filipino-Canadian libero said Creamline’s competitive training environment prepared her for this international break.

“Definitely happy to have this opportunity, you know, every practice I’ve just been trying to work hard to make the ates better and make practices competitive for them so I’m just really grateful and happy that I’m able to be on the court this time for the AVC,” said Torres.
