Kevin Quiambao’s KBL team backs his NBA Summer League bid

MANILA, Philippines—Kevin Quiambao has all engines set to go for his tryout in the NBA Summer League and he has the approval of the Goyang Sono Skygunners to match.

A few days back, Quiambao revealed that he will be flying to the United States to train and try out for a spot in the tournament, which is usually a showcase for rising talent and unsigned prospects.

In a report published by Korea’s Jumpball, Goyang is in full support of Quiambao’s decision.

Following the La Salle’s product’s first season in the Korean Basketball League, he has the freedom to do what he aims to do in the offseason while being under contract.

“He has long wanted to take on the challenge of the NBA Summer League,” an anonymous Goyang official told Jumpball. “The club respected the player’s wishes and gave its approval. We will continue to fully support him going forward.”

Jumpball also stated that the Sono Skygunners were already “aware” of Quiambao’s intent to join the Summer League even before he went public with the decision on social media.

The two-time UAAP champion, though, has a contractual obligation to return to Goyang after his trip to the US.

After signing with the KBL team last year, Quiambao had said that it’s his goal to make it to the NBA.

In his first season with the Sono Skygunners, Quiambao played like a professional beyond his years, posting 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 23 outings.

Goyang, though, missed the league quarterfinals and finished with a 19-35 win-loss record for the 2024-25 season.
