San Miguel Beer turned its marquee matchup against Barangay Ginebra into a one-sided beatdown and came through with a 104-93 victory in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen raced to a 22-6 lead at the start before sustaining their hold on the contest the rest of the way to produce their third victory in four starts in the all-Filipino tournament, where they are aiming to contend following a disappointing Commissioner’s Cup stint.
CJ Perez scored 23 points including key shots from both the three-point and four-point arcs, enabling San Miguel to avoid a repeat of last week’s collapse against Magnolia that ended its unbeaten start.
June Mar Fajardo had 18 points and 12 rebounds while Don Trollano was also key with 19 points.

San Miguel’s ballooned to 23 before Ginebra made it a bit respectable in the end.
Ginebra dropped to 1-1 after its second game in three nights, a stretch that started by routing Terrafirma on Wednesday.
Troy Rosario posted 24 points and eight rebounds for the Gin Kings, who didn’t field Jeremiah Gray after he hurt his knee against the Dyip.
Jamie Malonzo saw action for Ginebra after not playing in the team’s opening assignment and added 16.
Ginebra will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday against NorthPort at Philsports Arena in Pasig City while San Miguel’s next match is on May 4 with another big clash this time with Grand Slam-seeking TNT at Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
