MANILA, Philippines—It almost feels destined that University of Santo Tomas and La Salle will cross paths with a lot on the line in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

“It’s like we’re meant to be,” UST captain and libero Detdet Pepito said, smiling.

After both teams failed to secure the last remaining twice-to-beat bonus outright, the fierce rivals will face off in the virtual best-of-three showdown in the Final Four–starting with the playoff for No. 2.

UAAP: NU escapes, forces UST to playoff vs La Salle for bonus

National University slammed the door shut on University of Santo Tomas, sending a strong message ahead of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball Final Four.

Already locked in as the top seed with a twice-to-beat bonus, the defending champions outlasted the Golden Tigresses, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9, Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

“I didn’t see fear in my teammates,” said NU skipper Bella Belen, who led the way with 26 points on top of 17 digs and 13 receptions. “I had no doubts we’d not lose in the fifth (set) and win the game.”

UAAP: Bright future ahead for Shaina Nitura, Adamson

Rookie Shaina Nitura capped off her historic season by leading Adamson to a victory and a fifth place finish in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday.

But instead of basking in her own glory, Nitura deflected the credit and attributed the win over University of the Philippines to the entire team.

With all things considered, Adamson on Sunday scripted the best possible ending to its UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball campaign, dismantling University of the Philippines in straight sets at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Battling for pride—and perhaps laying the groundwork for next year—the Lady Falcons carved out a 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 triumph  to finish with a 6-8 win-loss record, a significant improvement from last season’s 3-11 slate that led to a seventh-place finish.

UAAP: NU reasserts mastery over UST ahead of men’s Final Four

MANILA, Philippines—National University continued its dominance over University of Santo Tomas on Sunday in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament.

The Bulldogs beat the Golden Spikers for the fourth consecutive time dating back to last year’s Finals after a 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22 win on the final day of eliminations.

“Yesterday, we found out that the game would have no bearing, but I told my players that no matter what happens, we should still set our mindset to win because the victory we get here, we can carry into the Final Four,” said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin, whose squad also faces UST in the semifinal round.

UAAP: Pivotal weekend for UST, La Salle with Final Four ranks at stake

University of Santo Tomas (UST) is in the UAAP women’s volleyball semifinals for a fifth straight season. And this weekend, it will be all about hoping and praying on Saturday and then doing all the work the following day to get the last twice-to-beat bonus in the Final Four.

La Salle’s task is the opposite, as the Lady Spikers work for a win over Far Eastern first before hoping that defending champion National U takes the fight out of the Growling Tigresses on Sunday.

UAAP: UST secures Final Four as ‘real grind begins’

University of Santo Tomas formally clinched a Final Four spot in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping University of the Philippines, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18, on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The win marked the Golden Tigresses’ fifth straight semifinal appearance, the feat also securing spots for La Salle and Far Eastern University.
