Train like an athlete: Kinetix Lab launches game-changing program for women in Manila
Kinetix Lab, the premier strength and conditioning training gym in the country, is revolutionizing the approach women take towards athletic performance with its “Train Like an Athlete Program.” This personalized fitness training program in Metro Manila is tailored for female athletes, as well as active women who would want to experience how athletes strengthen their body, combining sports-specific intensity, agility, and recovery to support participants in achieving exceptional results both on and off the field. This program focuses on functional strength training for women, injury prevention, and mental resilience, catering to both seasoned athletes and those beginning their fitness journey—just like these female flag football players who swear by it.
Bea Ignacio, Nina Juan, and Sri Anabo, being athletes and flag football players, deeply understand the effort required to earn their stripes. They have all been juggling their career, personal life, and sports. “Since I was in college, I was already juggling a lot of things. While studying BS Advertising Management, I was active in orgs, student government and I was also an athletic scholar playing for the DLSU Softball team for UAAP,” says 31-year-old Bea. She calls herself a “corporate athlete” since she currently juggles her marketing career and playing flag football. A project lead for an edu-tech company in Australia, 30-year-old Sri has always considered sports an integral part of her life. “In college, I played for the UP Judo Varsity team. After my UAAP career, I was on the hunt for a new sport to try which eventually led me to flag football,” Sri shares. Similar to Bea and Sri, Nina, a fitness coach and freelance actor, has also been an athlete throughout much of her school life. Her journey and reason for playing flag football was more of a form of therapy for her, an outlet for her emotions, as she had been diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder when she began playing flag football in 2018. “I had only been starting to learn how to navigate through emotions and football was my escape. It was the only time I felt that I could be me, with no judgments and trouble. It also became an outlet for me to release all negative and heavy emotions. It’s actually saved my life more times than I can count. It became the only reason I’d get up on some occasions. That’s one of the biggest reasons I choose to dedicate my life to this sport,” shares the 25-year-old athlete. Though representing various local teams, these three athletes are united as members of the Hurricanes Flag Football Club, an internationally recognized organization within Asian flag football. They emphasize that the sport demands agility, speed, and explosive power. “Our running is different from other sports because it requires us to cut sharply from one direction to another,” explains Bea, who has been playing flag football for two years now. Sri who tried flag football in 2019 but only started training for it in 2022 says that she prepares herself mentally not only during tournaments but also in training. “I consciously make an effort to train my mind to reset and stay calm when mistakes happen,” she says. “I use all kinds of emotion, especially the negative ones, as fuel to be the best I can be,” shares Nina who has been enjoying flag football as a sport for seven years.
Bea, Sri, and Nina engage in extensive strength and conditioning training at Kinetix Lab a minimum of three times a week, in addition to field training three times a week. “Strength and conditioning are incredibly important for women, especially when engaging in sports or an active lifestyle,” says Kinetix Fitness Manager Coach Iggy Baldovino. He explains that proper strength and conditioning training not only helps improve overall performance but also reduces the risk of injuries. “For women, building strength through training can also help balance hormones, support bone density, and boost metabolism,” he adds. Kinetix Lab provides a variety of workout and recovery programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of women. The “Train Like an Athlete” Program is designed to help women develop the strength, agility, and endurance necessary for athletic performance. “Whether you’re a seasoned athlete, someone new to sports, or someone who would like to adopt the training mindset and lifestyle habits of an athlete, this program helps build functional strength that translates to improved performance in any sport or through your daily routine. It focuses on developing key muscle groups used in sports, enhances balance, coordination, and flexibility, while also being mindful of women’s needs, which can affect energy levels, muscle recovery, and overall training progress.” While these female athletes train rigorously, they also place major importance on recovery. That’s why they are glad that all three Kinetix Lab branches feature a dedicated Recovery Room that provides a variety of recovery and physiotherapy services. “I book a session at Kinetix Lab’s Recovery Room to have tight muscles released so it doesn’t progress into a strain. Prevention is better than getting injured,” says Bea. Sri and Nina ensure they schedule recovery sessions at Kinetix Lab as well to address areas in their bodies that require muscle release to be able to play pain-free. “Kinetix Lab offers a tailored, supportive environment for women (and men) at every stage of their athletic journey. It is the perfect space for women to continue or start playing sports while improving strength and performance,” says Coach Iggy. Nevertheless, for males looking to strengthen their bodies and improve agility to start, return to, or continue their favorite sport, the coaches at Kinetix Lab can tailor a “Train Like an Athlete” Program. This program provides advantages that extend beyond sports, greatly enhancing performance in everyday activities, particularly for individuals with active lifestyles.
Bea, Sri, and Nina’s dedication and enthusiasm for flag football will surely ensure their presence on the field for many years to come. With their dedicated training at Kinetix Lab to enhance their flag football skills and their commitment to overall strength, these athletes are establishing a strong foundation for continued success. Their journey promises not just personal victory, but also the likelihood of inspiring future generations of female flag football players.
