Angge Poyos rued University of Santo Tomas’ missed chance to take the No. 2 seed and twice-to-beat advantage against La Salle in their UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball playoff.
But the UST star emphasized that there’s no time to dwell on the heartbreaking loss with a Final Four showdown against La Salle slated Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

La Salle flaunted its formidable frontline led by Amie Provido to tally a season-high 20 blocks in a crucial win over University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday.
Provido anchored her team’s staunch defensive performance with five kill blocks as the Lady Spikers claimed the second seed and the last twice-to-beat Final Four bonus.

After La Salle was dethroned by University of Santo Tomas in the Final Four last year, Shevana Laput said the Lady Spikers “rewrote” the narrative by claiming the last twice-to-beat incentive at the expense of the Golden Tigresses on Wednesday.
Laput and La Salle, which lost to No. 2 UST in last season’s semifinal round, made sure to avoid a deja vu following a 23-25, 25-20, 30-28, 29-27 victory over the Tigresses in a playoff.

The enemy thought it knew La Salle by heart—but the Lady Spikers flipped the script.
Banking on a dominant net defense, La Salle turned back University of Santo Tomas in four gritty sets, 23-25, 25-20, 30-28, 29-27, on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Once again, fierce rivals University of Santo Tomas and La Salle will engage in what is practically a best-of-three for the No. 2 spot in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.
Game 1 is the knockout for twice-to-beat protection on Wednesday. Game 2 is the start of the Final Four on Saturday, where the winner of “Game 1” can sweep its way to a championship berth.

“It’s like we’re meant to be,” UST captain and libero Detdet Pepito said, smiling.
