TAIPEI—The Philippines’ Angelo Que kept the clubhouse lead with his first round seven-under-par 65 as the second round of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship (TPC) was abandoned Friday due to inclement weather.
The three-time Asian Tour winner could not tee off as thunderstorms had initially forced play to be suspended at 9:33 a.m.
As the heavy rains continued to belt down at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club, tournaments officials were left with no choice but to call off play for the second round.
Only players from the morning session managed to tee off while the rest from the afternoon session will have to return on Saturday morning to resume their round which is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
American Jason Knutzon was even-par through nine holes and he took a share of second place alongside India’s Gangajeet Bhullar, who like Que, did not play today.
The full-field Asian Tour event has raised its profile by increasing its total prize fund to a record US$500,000 this year.
Chinese Taipei veteran Lu Wen-teh, a five-time Asian Tour winner provided the local cheers before the storms hit when he recorded the event’s second hole-in-one on the par-three 11th. Knutzon holds the honor as the first with his ace on the fifth hole on the opening day.
